Introduction to Textile Designing:
Textiles in India are an inevitable cultural legacy of India admired by the entire world. India today has a very strong mechanised textile industry, playing a major role in the economy. The course offers a broad based education in many aspects of fiber, fabric and pattern, emphasizing a thorough understanding of the design process, materials, structure and techniques as well as the interdependence of these elements. The students would interact with the craft sector as well as the textile industry during the course. A multi- disciplinary approach inculcates thinking, expands perceptual perspectives and builds artistic vocabulary. Regular interactions with design studios, production and distribution centres, community projects, retail establishments and industry forms a vital bridge between the institutions and the world. Students are encouraged to work on assignments and projects that contribute to their working skills as much as their thinking skills.
How is Textile designing different from Fashion designing:
Textile design is designing on any type of cloth, (apparel, curtain, bed linen, etc), whereas fashion designing is specific to apparel.
